Hit-and-run collisions can be some of the worst circumstances in which to lose a loved one. Not only does the unexpected event end in a tragic death, but the person responsible for the death flees the scene, making those involved wonder if the culprit will ever be located and held responsible for such reckless behavior. In a recent tragic and deadly collision in Chicago, the hit-and-run driver was located.
According to the reports, the incident in question occurred on April 28 on Interstate 55 in the early morning hours. The reports indicate that three young friends had been out that evening celebrating one of their birthdays and were in an Uber ride, a Hyundai sedan being driven by a 47-year-old man. The Hyundai was struck from behind by an Infiniti being driven by a 22-year-old man. The Hyundai reportedly burst into flames in the immediate aftermath of the collision.
Fortunately, the driver of the Hyundai and two of the passengers were able to get out of the vehicle, but one of the passengers was not so lucky. That passenger, a 23-year-old woman, died in the wreck. As that occurred, the driver of the Infiniti fled the scene. He was later located at his home. He reportedly received medical treatment for injuries suffered in the collision. The suspect was also charged with several crimes, including driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of an accident.
Car accidents that are tied to being caused by drunk or drugged driving can be infuriating, because it seems so preventable. In this recent incident, the family of the victim, as well as those injured in the crash, may have legal options to pursue against the hit-and-run driver. This not only helps with accountability but also the collection of compensation for damages suffered.
