The dilemma caused by hit-and-run collisions

Many people in the Chicago area have been in car accidents before. For most, these were so-called “fender benders.” For others, however, the incidents were much more serious. In the worst-case scenarios, a person may suffer a serious injury and the issue is compounded by the fact that the other driver fled the scene of the accident.

That was the case for one local man, according to a recent report. The victim was reportedly going through an intersection recently when a vehicle slammed into him. The man suffered serious injuries, including a broken pelvis. He was hospitalized for seven days, of which he spent the first two days unconscious. After the initial collision, the other vehicle involved was driven away from the scene. The recent report noted that the driver of that vehicle has not yet been located.

To make matters worse, there doesn’t appear to be much evidence for law enforcement officials to pursue in their attempts to identify the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle. There apparently was some surveillance video available from the intersection, but it reportedly did not offer much help. There were also some conflicting witness statements from the incident, with at least one witness identifying the vehicle that hit the victim as a black SUV.

This is the dilemma caused by hit-and-run collisions. Not only will victims, like the man in this recent incident, likely suffer serious injuries, but they may have trouble identifying the party responsible for the crash. However, with the diligent pursuant of all leads, it may be possible to track down the hit-and-run driver and attempt to secure financial compensation with a personal injury lawsuit. This not only helps assign liability but helps offset financial hardships caused by the crash.
