The decisions motorists make while they are behind the wheel are critical. According to recent reports, a fatal crash occurred in Jackson Park, resulting in a motorist being charged with reckless homicide. Based on reports by the Cook Count State’s Attorney’s Office, the 35-year-old male driver is also facing charges for eluding the police and failing to report an accident.
The incident began when the motorist and his passenger were driving home from a party. Chicago Police stopped the driver in the 7000 block of South Stoney Island Avenue. After officers briefly spoke with the driver, the driver allegedly sped away. This resulted in their vehicle crashing into the rear of another vehicle, causing that vehicle to spin out of control and crash into a tree. According to investigators, the computer of the speeding motorist showed that it was traveling 80 mph just before the crash.
The driver of the vehicle struck was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. Investigation is still ongoing; however, authorities did report that the charged motorist was released on bail for an armed violence and weapons charges.
