On behalf of the widow and estate (including three adult children) of a deceased 65-year-old man, we secured a $1.65 million settlement for negligence by the surgeon who treated the man's colon cancer. The surgeon planned to resect a portion of the man's ascending colon and to remove the left adrenal gland. The former procedure was performed without problem, but in attempting to remove the adrenal gland the surgeon incorrectly removed a portion of the pancreas, an error revealed by post-surgery pathological examination of the tissue removed. As a result of the surgeon's negligence, his patient suffered multiple complications, including repeated episodes of bleeding that a subsequent surgery failed to halt. The bleeding proved fatal within several weeks.
