M-56 presented to the E/R on June 14, 2019, with a flare-up of a congenital condition known as MEN 1/ZES. Allegedly, defts misdiagnosed him with pancreatitis despite knowing his medical history, and improperly treated him. As a result, he developed sepsis, septic shock, and multi-organ failure. After significant medical intervention including two operations and a prolonged hospitalization, he died from the injuries ($500,000 medl. expense; $52,000 LT as a truck driver). He is survived by his wife and three adult children. Self-insured south surburban hospital paid $700,000; Hospital Casualty paid $1,750,000 for hospitalist group.
