Four years after a father of two was crushed to death in a construction accident on an airport taxiway, we secured a $6.1 million settlement to help compensate his family for their loss. We demonstrated that the individual signaled to a cement truck driver that he was pouring concrete at the front of the truck — but the driver never saw him and drove the 60,000-pound truck over him. Our experience showed that although front blind spots are common knowledge in the construction industry, too often companies neglect to use flagmen, front mirrors and beeping systems to make sure workers are safe.
